City Life Org – NYC Pride, in partnership with Tribeca, announces “Pride Presents”

Film event features screenings highlighting the LGBTQIA+ community – including “disclosure”

NYC Pride, in partnership with Tribecaannouncement Pride Gifts, a unique film event celebrating LGBTQIA+ film during Pride. This year’s feature film, Disclosurewill make its East Coast Film Festival debut as part of Pride Presents.

“After several years away, it is with great pleasure that we are bringing our Film Festival back to this year’s all-in-person Pride events with Disclosure, presented by Laverne Coxlike our feature film,” said Samantha Marie Johnson, senior manager of Pride Presents. “By offering limited free registration for this year’s Pride Presents, we’re creating space for the community while making these important stories accessible to a new audience.”

DISCLOSURE is an unprecedented eye-opening look at transgender representations in film and television, revealing how Hollywood simultaneously reflects and manufactures our deepest anxieties about gender. Leading trans thinkers and creatives, including Laverne Cox, Lilly Wachowski, Yance Ford, Mj Rodriguez, Jamie Clayton and Chaz Bono, share their reactions and resistance to some of Hollywood’s most beloved moments. Struggling with movies like A Florida enchantment (1914), dog afternoon, The crying gameand boys don’t cryand with shows like The Jeffersons, The word Iand Laid, they retrace a story that is both dehumanizing, but also evolving, complex and sometimes full of humour. What emerges is a compelling story of dynamic interplay between trans representation on screen, societal beliefs, and the reality of trans lives. Reframing familiar scenes and iconic characters in a new light, director Sam Feder invites viewers to confront unexamined assumptions and shows how what once captured the American imagination now sparks new feelings. DISCLOSURE is causing a surprising revolution in the way we see and understand trans people.

“This year’s Pride Presents event is an opportunity for NYC Pride and Tribeca to partner with Laverne Cox and the Disclosure Team to engage the NYC community in the pressing issue of protecting and prioritizing the dignity, safety and well-being of trans people across the country,” mentioned Lucy Mukerjeelead programmer, Tribeca Festival.

Two short films will also be screened at Pride Presents. Beautiful they depicts a chance encounter that paves the way for a deeper connection. When two young people meet one afternoon, they feel irresistibly drawn to each other. Dreamily shot in warm, vibrant colors, and backed by an atmospheric, almost ethereal synth score, Beautiful They is a queer surf romance that seduces with its delicate, slow intimacy. Leaf Boat is a Welsh-language animated short telling the story of Heledd and Celyn, who navigate the dark and uncharted waters of entering into a new relationship. Using the spellbinding power of 2D animation, this film explores the inner worlds of characters’ emotions as viewed across a stormy sea.

Pride Presents will take place at spring studios on June 17, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. EDT. Registration is available here.
