Marvel’s latest big blockbuster movie is “Eternals,” which tells the story of a group of immortal beings with superhuman powers who have secretly lived on Earth for thousands of years, come together to fight the evil Deviants and save everyone on the planet.
The film introduces over 10 new superheroes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and now that Marvel Studios has the ability to create original content for Disney +, there are already talks about creating a series of Eternals prequels for the streaming service.
In a recent interview with the film’s writers, the Hollywood Reporter asked them if they would be doing a Disney + show or another Marvel movie, to which Kaz Firpo replied:
The two. This project was the gift that keeps on giving. The pandemic has been an incredibly difficult experience for the whole planet, but we took some time to write my first feature film as a director, which is called Automobile city girls, who represents about five teenage girls in Detroit in the 1990s with strange and dangerous powers, trying to understand and dismantle the cult their father started 20 years ago. It’s a supernatural detective story. It is a work of American magical realism. Ryan writes and produces and I direct. We even said jokingly that there should be a Eternals prequel show on Disney +. Go back and do an episode of Kingo in 1890s Mumbai where he juggles his life as a movie star, dealing with Gandhi’s peaceful dissolution of the British Empire in India. And there’s an episode with Thena where she’s in Greece. I would love to do this show. There are a lot of opportunities. If the audience allows us, there will be a story to tell with Dane Whitman. There is going to be a story to be told in Cosmos with the Eternals facing off against Arishem and all of the Celestials who are these incredible metaphors for creation. I think there are a lot of stories in the universe of Eternals.
With Ryan Firpo adding:
It is an exciting time to be a storyteller. With Disney +, with the movies, there are so many opportunities to tell these stories and so many different formats. It’s a really exciting time to just explore new frontiers in the narrative.
With “Eternals” having a stellar cast including Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Brian Tyree Henry, Salma Hayek, Lia McHugh, Don Lee and Kit Harrington. Many of them made names for themselves directing TV shows like “The Walking Dead,” “Game Of Thrones,” “Humans” and “Bodyguard,” so a Disney + series wouldn’t be impossible.
Disney + continues to creatively open new doors for Marvel Studios, as they are no longer limited to making movies, they have the ability to do both action and animation series, in addition to doing holiday specials and much more. At the end of “Eternals,” the credits said they would return, but would you like to see an Eternals prequel series starring Kingo as a Bollywood star in the 1980s or something else?
