“The theater is the foundation of any emerging actor, if you are well versed as a theater artist you are ready to jump into the industry,” says actor Vivek Bhadra.
The theater has been around for millennia. It is one of the oldest types of entertainment, offering a glimpse into our past, mythology and the human condition. The theater, being the oldest enchantment of Indian cinema, has helped provide an immersive viewing experience to the audience. It is proven that before becoming an actor, it is necessary to start with the theater to show a mastery of its talents of actor. One of those producers, directors and actor is Vivek Bhadra who, understanding the potential of theater, has made his way into the huge world of entertainment.
This person from Jamnagar is known to create content for a variety of OTT platforms. Passionate about theater, he has performed numerous plays on various social causes. Speaking about his background and experience, Vivek Bhadra, founder of Apurnaviram Entertainment shares insights from his journey as an actor and producer.
Q1) How did you start your career in the film industry?
I have always wanted to work in the theater. And, for the same, I started my journey as a theater artist from Jamnagar, Gujarati theaters. There, I did many shows that talk about causes and social problems. I have worked in 56 theaters and have gained immense appreciation for the same. Although the start was difficult, over time people started to like my job. Raghav Diwan and I started our journey together in 2009, as I had my own event management business. Raghav worked as a magician for the company and from there we dreamed of working together on big projects and were able to turn our dreams into reality.
Q2) When you first settled in the industry, what was your experience?
As everyone is well aware, the entertainment industry is not kind to everyone. It takes a lot of patience and dedication to get even one foot inside. I won’t say the opposite for me. Continuously bringing creative and innovative ideas to the table, I made sure my hard work was not lacking. Through all of this, the industry has provided me with a plethora of opportunities to thrive, so I can say that my experience has been very rewarding overall. From theater to cinema, the transition has been very quick, and so far I have made two films as an actor but as a producer I have made more than 50 films. And, currently, I run my own business Apurnaviram Entertainment.
Q3) Did you encounter any difficulties at the start of your trip?
I think if you are a skilled theater artist you will not have any problems or challenges. Any actor who wants to be successful in the entertainment business has to start with the theater. You are ready to jump into the profession with ease if you have a clear understanding of acting and are familiar with the minor acting abilities. If you have acting experience before you start working in films, it will increase your abilities and help you become the best actor in the business.
Q4) Are you currently working on some projects?
In the last four months I have produced 4 projects some of which are still in progress. I worked on films like ‘Bread’ with Raghav Diwan, and ‘Metamorphosis’ which came out on HotStar, and I also did a film – ‘Meri Pyari Rachna’. Currently Raghav and I are working together on many projects for OTT platforms like Sony liv, Hotstar, Amazon, Jio theaters, Voot, etc. Apart from that, we shot together with a movie in the beautiful town of Kalimpong which was one of my most prized creations. I also produced a short film “Ladies First” with my partner Jigar Gori under the banner of Blackeye Entertainment LLP and Chai Stories LLP which focused on the struggles of the female workforce in our country.
Q5) What would you recommend to aspiring artists who wish to enter the industry?
The most important thing to remember is to “believe in yourself”. There would be times when you would feel like this path might not be for you. But, believe me, it’s never like that. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Your persistence is the prerequisite of the entertainment industry. Never be afraid or forget to put your ideas forward and work them out yourself, even if no one else is helping you. And this is exactly how you will succeed in competing in this area.
Actor and producer Vivek Bhadra is inherently passionate about producing content that adds value to people’s lives.
